Listed Buildings & Heritage

Listed Buildings

I have chosen the listed building that sits on the left of the two when entering the site from the tube DLR station. This building is grade two listed by English Heritage and was once a cafe. This grade listing means the exterior of the building can not be change however, the inside of the building can be slightly altered. Due to this, and to maintain the character of the building, the exterior won't be changed, however the inside of the building will be altered allowing the building to be best used for a modern day cafe. The building is being converted back into a cafe as to celebrate and remember the buildings heritage showing the same use of the building when it was previously in use.

Expanded water front creating blue network

Heritage

One of the main aspects of the Royal Albert Dock heritage is the water front and the blue Network. The waterfront has been expanded with water being brought into the site. The use of piers and steps down to the water level allows visitors to once again interact with the water front. A museum has been incorporated into the site allowing visitors to see and learn about the Royal Albert Dock and its history letting people see and understand how the dock previously looked and what it was used for.
